The proposed credit, created under Section 25F of the Internal Revenue Code as part of the 2025 tax law, is permanent and nonrefundable, and allows individuals to claim up to $1,700 a year and $3,400 for married couples filing jointly. Thirty states have already opted in to what is essentially a "school choice" option.
